The world has five huge plastic soups in the oceans - in the North Pacific alone, a plastic soup consisting of approx. 100,000 tons of plastic. The five plastic soups make up a total area equivalent to Africa. In 2017, a staggering 322 million tonnes of plastic were produced worldwide, and the production of plastic is expected to quadruple by 2050, and at the same time the plastic waste discharged to the marine environment will double by 2030. Almost 40% of the plastic produced is plastic for food packaging. A large proportion of this is disposable plastic - that is, plastic that cannot be reused or recycled. Its fate consists either of burning, accumulating in open landfills, or in the worst case ending up as plastic pollution in the world's oceans. Plastic Change is, among other things, put in the lake, to prevent some of this from happening. It's time for a Plastic Change if we are to pass on a world to our next generations where they can spend their time on OTHER THAN cleaning up after us, and where microplastics are not a fixed part of the meal.
